Sterckx: A family run business

The mushroom composting facility Sterckx was founded by Jan Sterckx in 1967 when people active in the linen industry changed over to grow mushrooms. He developed the production of casing soil and of Phase I mushroom compost in a covered yard. Output reached some 1.250 tonnes of phase I compost in 1975.

Karel Sterckx obtained a Master in Agricultural Science in 1972 and followed the footsteps of his father in 1974. Since 1990 he is Managing director of the company. Karel started the Phase II operation in 1990 and the Phase III operation in 1995. Output went up to 300 tonnes of Phase II compost and 500 tonnes of Phase III compost in 2000.

In October 1999 his son Bart Sterckx joined the company after Masters in Agricultural Science and Composting Processes. He is the engine behind the construction of a state-of-the-art indoor composting facility in 2001. By his youthly enthusiasm the company expanded at a rapid pace and developed new markets abroad.

Nowadays Sterckx is still a fully family run business with a professional approach.
